Yes and there is research to back it up! A large study found that not only were tele-therapy sessions just as effective as in person sessions but clients overall were satisfied with their care.
There are so many benefits to telehealth OT services: (1) it’s convenient and can be done anywhere as long as there is a stable internet connection, (2) increases consistency by eliminating most obstacles that anyone would face when attending in-person sessions as well as provides multiple opportunities for caregiver education, (3) increases access as tele-therapy gives you a wider selection to qualified OTs and is a great option for underserved populations or families living in remote areas when there is no access to an in-person option available, and (4) technology can be engaging for children since there are so many games and activities that are interactive that work on so many skills and are equally engaging for your child.

An evaluation is crucial and lays the foundation of helping you understand the needs of your child. Evaluations look at whether or not sensory or motor delays are impacting your child’s ability to function and participate within their personal, academic, and social settings. Assessments are individualized and tailored to each child and vary across ages. Generally areas that are addressed in an assessment include fine and gross motor development, visual skills, play and participation, self-regulation, sensory processing, self-care, self-help, executive functioning skills, and motor planning.

In order for your child to be successful in carrying over learned skills they need the opportunity to practice those skills in other environments. Family or school staff involvement is an important factor in your child being successful. We value collaborating with families and teachers as a team in efforts to support the child’s goals. We enjoy consulting with teachers or parents as well as spending the final 5-10 minutes of each session discussing skills that were addressed and how to implement any strategies that were used..
